My heart goes out to the people living between Kilcunda and Wonthaggi but I have to ask the question 'in which particular piece of sand have they been burying their heads for the past several decades?

I was a Councillor on the now defunct Healesville Shire Council at the time that the so called Liberal government, led by Rupert Hamer, were hell bent on imposing the Upper Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Authority on us and three neighbouring Shire councils. We lost that battle and then lost the war when Kennet, another so called Liberal, closed the Council down. Neither of these politicians had a political mandate for what they did and nor does Bracks, having pilloried Ted Baillieu, who did put it in his election manifesto.

Around the time that our Councils' status was under threat I attended a public meeting on the future of planning in Victoria. I sat right down the front and was able to ask the first question ' Does the concept of private property still exist in Victoria? Neither the Liberal Minister for Planning whose name I forget or his shadow, Evan Walker, actually answered the question and the meeting chairman failed to press the point. This contrasted clearly with the anonymous public servant to whom I was able put the same question in a telephone conversation - his response was clear ' the concept of private property is a very old fashioned notion - no it does not. So Ray, without a surname, who stormed out of the 'fait accompli' meeting masquerading as 'local consultations' was right when he declared 'this is fascism' before he left the room. All the leading political parties in the State of Victoria gain power via democracy but then become fascist ( and where are all the lefties screeching 'no platform for fascists'?).

I am sorry Ray, it is going to happen, principally because you live in a seat held by a 'Liberal'. The best that you can hope for is that, on the off chance that Bracks gets out of his shiny red helicopter anywhere within earshot, you can ask him 'what is the point of having a fascist government if you cannot get the trains to run on time?'
